The Queen’s University Belfast was founded in 1845 and is one of the most respected universities in the British Isles. Its research tradition has gained it an international reputation. The School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy at QUB has four research centres. The Centre for Advancement of Women in Politics (CAWP) is an interdisciplinary research centre focussing on global gender politics, with a special interest and competence in gender and the EU and in comparative gender representation and policy-making. CAWP was co-ordinator for the FP5 EGG project and partner in the FP 6 CIVICACTIVE project.

Dr. Yvonne Galligan

Yvonne Galligan heads WP 4 - Justice, Democracy and Gender in RECON. She is Reader in Politics at QUB and Director of the Centre for Advancement of Women in Politics. She is vice-president of the executive committee of the International Political Science Association, and member of a number of national and international associations in political science. She was head of the EU-funded EGG project. Dr. Galligan’s research focuses on gender politics, comparative political representation, and gender and public policy in national and EU contexts.

Sara Clavero 

Sara Clavero is Senior Research Fellow at QUB. She came to work as a researcher at QUB in 2000, after having undertaken postgraduate training in Britain and the USA. She has extensive experience of working on EU-funded projects, including the FP5 EGG and EQUAPOL projects. She has also worked as Research Officer at the Northern Ireland Assembly as well as participating in various research projects funded by the Irish Government. She specializes in gender policy and politics in the EU, and has conducted comparative research on the development and implementation of gender mainstreaming, women’s political representation and gender in European welfare states.
