Sabancı University in Istanbul began accepting students in 1999, and has already become one of the top five universities in Turkey. The University offers interdisciplinary academic programs and a state-of-the-art information technology infrastructure to research and development projects in industry. It has a track record of successes in intellectual property management and commercial knowledge transfer, and has been engaged in several EU-financed research projects. Its graduate programs in Conflict Resolution and Analysis, Political Science and European Studies makes it an ideal place to conduct research on international relations and the European Union. For example, the European Studies MA Program provides a comprehensive study of historical and contemporary developments in Europe, specifically of the European integration process, from a multi-disciplinary perspective.  It has an internationally well recognised faculty and it reconciles excellence in teaching with excellence in research.

Prof. Dr. Meltem Müftüler-Baç

Meltem Müftüler-Baç is Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at SABU and Jean Monnet Chair ad personam of European integration. She received her PhD in International Relations from Temple University, USA in 1992. She worked at Bilkent University from 1992 to February 2002 and as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Chicago in 1999-2000. Prof. Müftüler-Baç has received two prestigious awards from the Turkish Academy of Sciences: Young Social Scientist Investigator Award (2002) and Distinguished Young Scientist Award (2003). She is actively involved in research on the EU, particularly its policy-making tools and impact on Turkish politics. Her current research activities include the EU’s security aspirations and the legitimacy crisis the EU is currently facing. Prof. Müftüler-Baç is a member of the editorial board of the Social Science Citation Index journals, Women’s Studies International Forum and the European Union Politics.

Dr. Yaprak Gursoy

Yaprak Gursoy received her PhD from the University of Virginia, Department of Politics. She taught at Sabanci University for three years and she is currently an instructor at Istanbul Bilgi University. Dr. Gursoy's dissertation is a comparative study of Greece and Turkey on regime change, democratization, civil-military relations, and attitudes of businessmen towards regimes. For her dissertation Dr. Gursoy completed more than 100 interviews with Greek and Turkish businessmen, politicians, and retired military officers. Dr. Gursoy is currently participating in a project headed by the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University on Evaluating International Influences on Democratic Transitions. Further research interests include Southern European politics, international relations theory, European Union studies, social movements, and qualitative methods.

Dr. Arzu Kibris

Arzu Kibris is Postdoctoral Fellow at Sabanci University for the RECON project in the academic year 2010-2011. She received her PhD in Political Science at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at SABU in June 2010. Kibris' PhD thesis is a game-theoretical study of the linkages between foreign and domestic policy-making, for which she received a PhD scholarship from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. She holds an MA in Economics from the University of Rochester and a BS in Management from Bilkent University.

Selin Türkeş

Merzuka Selin Türkeş is PhD candidate in political science at Sabancı University. Her dissertation analyses the consistency of human rights as a European Union foreign policy tool and is supported by a PhD scholarship from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. As a teaching assistant, Türkeş has led the discussion sessions for the core curriculum courses at Sabancı University in Humanity and Society and International Relations Theory. She holds a BA in International Relations from Bilkent University. Her research interests are international relations theory, European integration, identity construction and political discourse.
