RECON's final newsletter
RECON concluded on 31 December 2011, and the final issue of RECON's Newsletter has now been published. The issue includes extensive reports from the concluding conference and an open seminar in Oslo, as well as other workshops staged towards the end of 2011. It also provides information on recent and forthcoming publications from the project, two specialist websites which have been launched as part of RECON, and an overview of project resources. Excellent final expert evaluation of RECON
A review of RECON’s overall performance commends the project for producing high-quality research that is of great importance for present-day Europe. It is ‘recommended that the empirical findings and the theory developed within RECON be made standard knowledge in textbooks on Europe’. Read more.

European Union Democratic Audit website
The European Union Democratic Audit website aims to provoke discussion about indicators and data sources which might be used to assess how democratic the EU is. The website was launched in October 2011 and has been extensively updated after the end of RECON. Read more.

Website on the Europeanisation of national constitutions
The website on the Europeanisation of national constitutions was launched in October 2007. It has been continuously updated during the lifetime of the project and was completed by the end of 2011. It offers a comprehensive overview of how national constitutions are adapting to the process of European integration. Read more.

Summary and photos from RECON's outreach seminar
RECON organised its second open outreach event in Oslo on 24 November 2011. The public seminar was held prior to the two-day academic concluding conference and presented key findings to a broad audience. A summary and photos from the event are available here.

Summary and photos from RECON's concluding conference
RECON’s concluding conference was staged in Oslo on 25-26 November 2011. Key findings from five years of research were discussed and the greater, more overarching implications that RECON has generated were discerned. Due attention was also paid to the most pressing issue currently facing the EU, namely the financial crisis. A summary and photos are available here.

New book on multilayered representation in the EU
A new volume edited by Tatjana Evas, Ulrike Liebert and Christopher Lord appeared on Nomos in March 2012. The book Multilayered Representation in the European Union: Parliaments, Courts and the Public Sphere brings eminent scholars together with RECON researchers from three sub-projects – EU constitutionalism; representation and institutional make-up; and civil society and the public sphere – to jointly discuss the EU’s novel configuration of ‘compound representation’ in light of alternatives to parliamentary representation. New book: From economic to constitutional crisis in the EU
Agustín J. Menéndez discusses the constitutional implications of the fiscal constitution of the EU in a new book which appeared on EOLAS Ediciones in March 2012 (in Spanish). He reconstructs in detail the handling of the economic, financial, fiscal and institutional crises by the EU in this study, which is undertaken as part of RECON’s WP 7 on the political economy of the EU. New book: Rethinking democracy and the European Union
Erik Oddvar Eriksen and John Erik Fossum have edited the book Rethinking Democracy and the European Union, which was published on Routledge in January 2012. The book draws upon leading scholars and practitioners from RECON to frame and analyse a range of institutional realms and policy fields. The book questions whether EU politics require a new theory of democracy and draws some key conclusions from the RECON project. Read more.
