ARENA has moved

The RECON coordinator ARENA - Centre for European Studies moved out of Blindern campus on 15 December 2007. The new premises in Sognsveien 68 are located only a 10 minutes walk away, close to the subway station 'Ullevål stadion'. The postal address remains the same, but please note that all staff have new phone numbers. New contact information and map.



New website: The Europeanisation of national constitutions

A new website on the Europeanisation of national constitutions was recently launched. It is mastered by the Center for Political and Constitutional Studies in Madrid, and is aimed at researchers, journalists and citizens interested in learning about the Europeanisation of member states’ constitutions. Call for new partners in RECON

RECON seeks two new partner institutions to complement the project’s existing research expertise within the fields of representation and institutional make-up (WP 3) and the political economy of the EU (WP 7). A competitive call for new partners was launched on 21 November 2007. The deadline for submitting research proposals is 16 January 2008. Read more.



RECON series joined ERPA network

The RECON Online Working Paper Series joined the European Research Papers Archive (ERPA) on 16 November 2007. ERPA is a continuously updated database for online working papers in the field of European integration research. The search engine allows advanced searches for authors, titles, publication dates and keywords as well as full text search. The RECON series is the eleventh series to join ERPA, which currently includes more than 1,140 research papers in its database. Search ERPA.



Report from RECON's kick-off conference

RECON Report No 3 collects paper presentations and comments from the opening session of the project's kick-off conference. It starts with RECON's theoretical framing paper by Erik O. Eriksen and John Erik Fossum and is followed by the keynote speeches of John Dryzek and James Bohman. It also includes the prepared comments to the keynote speeches by Hauke Brunkhorst and Rainer Forst, respectively. You can download or order a paper version here.



New RECON working papers

Within RECON's WP 6 on the foreign and security dimension, two new RECON online working papers have been published. In the paper '"Doing good" in the world?', Helene Sjursen reconsiders the research agenda on the EU's Foreign and Security Policy. Wolfgang Wagner in his paper asks 'why bother with the democratic deficit in the EU's Security and Defense Policy?'. Read more.

Five new papers have recently been published in RECON’s online working paper series. Authors of the papers are John Erik Fossum, Neil Walker, Christoph Meyer, Thorsten Hüller and Dawid Friedrich. Read abstracts and download the papers here.


New book: The Anarchy of Communicative Freedom

A new edited volume with contributions from several RECON partners and with extensive comments by Jürgen Habermas was recentlypublished with Suhrkamp (in German). The book is edited by Peter Niesen and Benjamin Herborth (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University). Read more.



The RECON Online Working Paper Series is launched

The two first papers in RECON's online working paper series have been published. The series publishes pre-print manuscripts from the researchers involved in the project, but also from other researchers working within the fields covered by RECON. The focus of the series is on the study of democracy within the multilevel configuration that makes up the EU. Read more on the series or go directly to the papers.


RECON kick-off conference

RECON's kick-off conference in Oslo on 26-27 January 2007 attracted some 160 participants, representing a broad range of European research milieus as well as political institutions and civil society. See pictures from the conference here.

RECON Report No 1

The first volume of RECON’s report series is available. Altiero Spinelli - From Ventotene to the European Constitution (ed. A. J. Menéndez) is a collection of some of the key political texts of the renowned Italian and European politician. The report celebrates Spinelli in the year that marks the centenary of his birth. RECON kick-off conference

RECON's kick-off conference will be held in Oslo on 26-27 January 2007. The first day of the conference is open for the public, and all interested are welcome to register. State Secretary Liv Monica Stubholt will open the event, and James Bohman and John Dryzek are keynote speakers.



RECON project launch

The research project RECON started on 1 January 2007. RECON involves a broad range of research milieus across Europe, mainly within social sciences and law, and will study the possibilities for a reconstitution of democracy in Europe. For previous research within this field, see the CIDEL project that concluded in October 2005.
