Open call for a postgraduate research position at the University of León

Universidad de León is one of RECON's 19 partners. Dr. Agustín José Menéndez at the Universidad de León is the research leader of RECON’s work package 7 on The Political Economy of the European Union. The vacant research position is available for a period of up to 3 years, and will be dedicated to full time work within the RECON project.

Deadline for application is 22 June 2007.

One research contract for 12 months, renewable up to a total of 36 months, is available at the University of León. The new researcher will undertake research within the framework of RECON, and more specifically, in WP 7 - The Political Economy of the European Union. Research will be supervised by Dr. Menéndez, who is also the work package leader. The contract will start on 1 July 2007, and could at maximum be renewed until 30 June 2010.

The researcher will engage full-time in the project, and receive a monthly salary of € 1,370 (annual gross € 16,440). Health insurance is also provided under the national health insurance system.

Requirements

Candidates must be law or political science graduates. Post-graduate studies, such as a completed LL.M or PhD in a discipline or theme relevant to the research project, will be very positively considered.

Candidates should be acquainted with the legal and politico-scientific research on European integration, and very specifically, on the law and politics of the European Union.

Candidates must be fluent in English, and preferably in French or German. Knowledge of any other official languages of the EU (and, in particular, Spanish) or applicant countries will be positively considered.

Preference will be given to candidates with a previous research experience, to be assessed by reference to international publications, papers presented at international workshops or conferences, or previous experience in collective research projects.

A specific schedule of all commitments and publications of the researcher will be included in the contract. Assuming the contract is extended to the total period of 36 months, the researcher will be required to undertake advanced research leading to intermediate publications in peer-reviewed journals, and to a final deliverable in the form of a monograph on European taxation, state liability and mutual trust by July 2010. The researcher could be required to devote up to 20 % of the time to organisational tasks directly related to his/her research topic and to the activities of the research project. The candidate is also expected to attend the meetings and follow the activities of the research project. Failure to comply with these obligations, and in particular with the production of deliverables in time, would result in the justified dismissal of the researcer.

The researcher will be required to keep a proper record of the time devoted to different activities, to be filled in at the end of each month.
